Stevens Johnson Syndrome

Of the many skin diseases that a human may suffer from, one of them is Stevens Johnson Syndrome. More than a disease this is an allergy which occurs due to a chemical or drugs. More exposure to these elements would mean more frequent allergy. Chemical s which is majorly responsible for the spread of this disease is sulfonamide. Unfortunately, this chemical is found in a lot of drugs available in the market which includes antibiotics and others used for inflammation problems. There are times when Stevens Johnson Syndrome may also be a result of other diseases like influenza and mumps.

This disease, in the initial stages starts with a simple thing as rashes which then turn to lesions. These can be seen on different body parts but are more prominent on limbs. They may start with the legs or the hands and then spread to other body parts such as arms. Because these are rashes, experiencing itching is pretty common and can get irritating if the disease covers the while body. It may be controlled in small quantities but little can be done about it in the advanced stages as the mental framework does not allow being in peace. If the itching spreads and covers more than 30 percent of the body, the problems is referred to as severe or intense by the doctors. According to them, if it is not checked on time, the patients may face life threatening consequences. This allergy has the potential to spread to the internal organs from the external ones which is a further cause of worry.

Recovery from this disease may require extensive measures and can be fairly complicated. The techniques are similar to that of a burn recovery procedure. Because of the allergy, the skin tends to peel off which causes further problems as the body tends to become more endangered with the possibility of infections arising as the internal body parts become exposed. Fertility problems arise if the genitals of the body can infected which may seriously undermine the future prospects of marriage to parenthood of the patient. The pain can be intense and baring them can be very demanding and patience requiring.

As far as the medications are concerned, unfortunately, it is the medication for various diseases which cause problems of Stevens Johnson Syndrome. Most of this is because of malpractices during the manufacturing of drugs and side effects arising from it. There have been cases when the children have got such bad reactions from this medicine that have lead to blindness and inability to walk. Sighting this, there is a need to mention the problems that may arise from the medicines in the form of side effects. Some medicines have been banned by the authorities with these in mind.

Another unfortunate fact is that there are hardly any features which may direct the parents to understand that the child may be suffering from some disease which would require immediate attention. Most of them relate it to simple rashes which get resolved with time but only realize the problems when it's too late.
